David DeBlieck, Artistic Director

David DeBlieck

Artistic Director

David DeBlieck received his B.A. in Theatre Arts from Augsburg College and his M.F.A. in Dance from the University of Hawaii. From 1994-2001, David trained and performed as a principal dancer with Iona Pear Dance Theatre, Honolulu's premiere contemporary ensemble that fuses modern dance with butoh and visual splendor. Since returning to Minneapolis in 2001, David has danced with Gerry Girouard and pursued a passion for climbing around on everything in sight. In addition to his escapades with WSDT, David has choreographed productions of The Swim and Patty Red Pants at Red Eye, and several productions at Augsburg College where he teaches as an adjunct faculty in the theater program. He has also been featured as a guest artist in four productions with our sister company in Austin, TX, Wicked Cricket Dance Theatre.

In Hawaii, David directed the Hawaii State Dance Council's Choreographic Awards Festival from 1997-1999, coordinated the Honolulu Gay & Lesbian Cultural Festival and was the recipient of the University of Hawaii’s Carl Wolz Award for Excellence in Modern Dance. In MN, David has worked as associate producer for 3 Legged Race, served on grant review panels for the Metropolitan Regional Arts Council and is a member of the Board of Directors for Patrick's Cabaret. David currently teaches aerial classes on fabric and dance trapeze with Cathy Stone at Patrick's Cabaret.

Jeffrey Bleam, Artistic Associate

Jeffrey Bleam

Artistic Associate

Jeffrey Bleam is a theatre historian specializing in design theory and the relationship between theatre and visual culture. Jeffrey holds a Doctorate degree from the University of Minnesota and a Masters from Villanova University in Pennsylvania. His work as a director and designer most often critiques and twists the ways in which we visualize and recreate the past on stage. In addition to being resident costumer, he served as ensemble and interlude director for WSDT and Discovery Arts Trapeze’s production of Phantasmagoria at Intermedia Arts. WSDT audiences may also remember Jeffrey's Electrization: The Peculiar Findings of Doctor Duchenne, featured as part of Musclescapes presented by Red Eye. Other standouts from his collaborations with David DeBlieck include the “butoh-bondage” designs for Resolution with Rebecca Holmberg and the slide illustrations for The Buddy System. In 2005, Dr. Jeffrey Bleam joined the faculty at St. Cloud State University as a professor of costume design and directing.

David Harris, Artistic Associate

David Harris

Artistic Associate

David Harris received his B.A. in English from University of Alaska Fairbanks. He started his performance career as a juggler-comedian, performing widely across Minnesota and Alaska. During the last 6 years, he has focused on evolving these skills to create original works with ordinary objects: trash cans, spinning stools, folding chairs, ladders, and five-gallon paint buckets. Most recently, he and David DeBlieck created and toured “Paper Movers,” which they performed as part of Phantasmagoria in Minneapolis and Wicked Cricket Dance Theatre’s Wee-Beasties in Austin, Texas. In addition, he performed in WSDT’s Musclescapes as part of the acrobatic Stalls ensemble. In 2003, David created an evening length solo piece, The Paper Mover. In 2002, he participated in 3 Legged Race’s Field/Play Performance Laboratory, creating a movement piece titled "CLIMBING". He has performed at Balls Midnight Cabaret, Patrick’s Cabaret, and the Minnesota Fringe Festival. In 2000, he received a spoken word grant from The Loft Literary Center to create a collaborative show titled Spine: Reading the Bones. David is thrilled to be a part of Wicked Sister Dance Theatre where he has already shared many wonderful experiences.

Cathy Stone, Artistic Associate

Cathy Stone

Artistic Associate

Cathy Stone (Artistic Associate) is a modern dancer who loves to fly! She moved to the Twin Cities after completing the M.F.A. program in choreography at the University of Colorado in 2003. During her time in Colorado Cathy was a company member and teacher with Frequent Flyers Productions, a groundbreaking aerial dance company. Through the melding of modern dance, gymnastics, and aerial arts Cathy has created her own choreographic and teaching style that moves dancers through the vertical space on the stage. Recently, Cathy has been exploring this idea with Wicked Sister Dance Theatre through performance opportunities and co-teaching aerial dance classes in the community. WSDT audiences may remember her moving paper, creeping up the silks and spinning wildly in Phantasmagoria and stomping in tennis shoes as part of Musclescapes. Cathy is also a Shiatsu and Massage Therapist working in the Twin Cities to help dancers, athletes, and regular Joes move through their aches and pains.
